What I miss about Hong Kong...

Okay...Winter break is now 2 weeks from being over and I'll be back in Hong Kong in about a week from now. Why so early back to school you ask? Because being home can be quite a long and repetitive adventure to boredomland and though going back to Hong Kong won't fix my boring personality, there are a few things I miss for no particular reasons.

I miss...
...walking down the "banana," a named give to the curvy walk-path down from UG hall I passing the staff apartment behind hall III reaching around to the front. This is a walk-path that many residents of hall III use instead of walking down the lower bridge and the elevators....cuz we all know, weird stuff happens in HKUST elevators. I once met a guy who played "Have you met...?" to a random girl in there. Geez, watched sitcoms much?

...ordering pizza from Paisano's, the pizzeria in Sai Kung Village not so far from HKUST campus who claim to make the biggest pizzas in Hong Kong. Being scientists and engineers as we were, we went down to prove it and prove it we did.

the famous/infamous 24-inch-pizza made by Paisano's pizzeria.

...Hong kong gals...need I say more. <ps. My bro might be reading this and if he is, I meant the Indian international students coming to study in Hong Kong>

...walking down to the pier down past the mini-soccer pitch and just let the sea breeze move through you like you are just a piece of paper.

...Hong Kong gals...ok...maybe there was more to say....Nope! Nothing.

...Metro Transit Railway or better known in Hong Kong the MTR. Ever since I got back home the transport system in Bangkok especially the BTS or skytrain downtown seem much slower because of it. I miss being spoiled by the MTR for taking me to places without having to worry too much about traffic. Though I have to worry about not being trampled on instead :P

...sMobilenet & HKUST Lan internet - Torrenting has never been so fast.

           ..."Linke-de-list."

...the crazy locals in hall III. They might not speak English well, but they sure have a way of throwing a birthday party with the "No pain no gain" system performing what they call a "Happy HurtDay" which can be graphically explained to you in details but for the sake of the kids reading this <None> Let's just call it a Crotch-to-door celebration.

...listening to my crazy-ass friends singing this song out loud ANY where and EVERY where on-campus, and sometimes on the MTR.

Not a very good day...

I am in control. I really am in control. All around me are my family, from all around the city, so many of us gathered here today at the hospital. I can see them crying and I know exactly why.

Not so long before I was standing in a hospital, I was at my old high school. My teacher asked me to come in and help with her laboratory work. All I had to do was helping managing the students and make them remember the Phyla of all five kingdoms of animals. I got a call from my mother at a period that the kids were noisy and not cooperative so I had to ignore it then thinking it was nothing and I would call her back in about five minutes. Working with me were my old classmates and close friends who got asked the same favor from my teacher and I was overjoyed to get this opportunity to visit them again. I later got a call from my sister when the kids were quiet and in line and what she told cleanly wiped the smile off my face...

I walked out of the school almost immediately, puzzled and not knowing what to feel, I was numb. Thoughts flew into my head. Ones that I don't want to have, ones that don't make a lot of sense and ones that I just didn't know what to make of.

Fiction

It was a chilly morning and he who thought he was late as usual was standing there in the MTR station. In his right hand an empty cup of hot chocolate from Starbucks which he finished five minutes earlier but had not yet thrown away even though he was but two feet away from the nearest trash can. Why would he? What would he be doing with his hand when she shows up then? He took out his wallet just to check whether he had any money in it because letting her pay for his meal would be something he considers uncool. His eyes wandered around the station from left and right. He checked the exit sign again contemplating whether he was at the right exit. It said "Exit A," the same thing it said when he checked it last. Right then he saw her at the corner of his eye, walking out from the paid area into his direction. Still nervous, he took an imaginary sip out of his empty cup before he threw it away.

"Hi Lisa," he said to the girl in front of him while checking out her outfit which he has not seen before, "You look very pretty today."

She was looking pretty that day, and every day for that matter. Lisa, with her figure smaller than his looked up to him and said, "Hi Safe. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."

They started walking out of the station through Exit A while sharing some small talks and he still could not take his eyes off of her. Once they were out and about, he decided to cancel the trip to the amusement park for it could be too tiring for the both of them, after she told him she was working late the night before and he was not of full energy himself. They walked back inside the station and got out from a different exit into a mall. It was nicely decorated with Christmas theme and many people were taking photos with the decorations. They stopped at a restaurant she was familiar with for brunch and had more interesting talks there. It was then when he first got to know her a little better. Much of her stories were about her studies, work with the university and her career pursuit. He asked her a lot of questions with every bit of curiosity and interest and Lisa was also full of questions herself.

...to be continued <maybe>
